Due to the extensive drying process, as well as the fumes that come from it, oil is not the best paint for me! Acrylic is used a LOT in abstraction and experimental artwork, less with realistic portraits... But, Hyper-realists like Chuck Close have definitely demonstrated that you can achieve realism with an amazing level of detail quickly. Its fast drying time allows me to complete a work in layers without having to wait days or weeks in between.
